Financial Assistance
MCMS offers a financial aid program to offset the cost of tuition for eligible families. This is a need-based program, with financial aid awards made annually (generally in April) for the upcoming school year. An application for financial aid must be made through FAST, an independent program used for calculating award packages. Families who encounter an unexpected financial hardship during the school year should reach out to the MCMS Director of Finance and Operations to discuss additional financial assistance opportunities mid-year.
In addition to need-based aid, the following opportunities may be available to provide assistance with the cost of attendance:
Transportation Reimbursement: If you reside in the Madison Metropolitan or Middleton-Cross Plains School District, you may be able to receive reimbursement of your transportation expenses to and from school. Contact your home school district for more information, documentation requirements, and deadlines. You may need to report your student’s specific attendance record.
Dependent Care Assistance Programs: Parents may be eligible to set aside pre-tax dollars in a dependent care FSA in order to pay for a portion of their child’s tuition prior to reaching Kindergarten age, or for wraparound care programs for a child who is younger than age 13.
Wisconsin Tuition Tax Deduction: Parents may be able to deduct from their Wisconsin income certain tuition payments made for students enrolled in K-12 private schools using Schedule PS.
Section 529 Plans: Parents may use Section 529 plan savings to pay for private K-12 tuition, subject to certain limits.
Use of some of these programs may affect other tax benefits you may be entitled to. Consult with a tax professional to learn more about the tax treatment of private school tuition payments and/or wraparound care fees. MCMS’ FEIN is 39-1488030.
