New Head of School: July 2020
Madison Community Montessori School has appointed Kathleen Franzen as its next Head of School, effective July 1, 2020. Kathleen previously served as the Head of High School for Madison Country Day School (2008-2016) and from 2003-2008, she planned and co-founded Marshall Montessori International Baccalaureate High School in Milwaukee, which is now part of MacDowell Montessori School. Kathleen’s appointment concludes a national search to identify the successor to Vicki McCarthy, who, last spring, announced her plan to resign at the end of the 2019-20 school year, following eleven successful years as Head of School.
With her previous head of school experience, Kathleen also brings a commitment to AMI Montessori, knowledge of a variety of pedagogies, and a solid understanding of the competitive education landscape. As our next Head of School, Kathleen will further empower staff, foster internal leadership development, and continue the work of growing MCMS. She will offer a fresh perspective as both an administrator and a parent.
Kathleen holds a B.S. in biological sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.S. in curriculum and instruction, and teacher certification from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is licensed in broadfield science (6-12), biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and completed the Montessori Orientation to the Adolescent through NAMTA in 2007. Kathleen and her husband, Shaun, live in Middleton with their three children, Rowan (6), Finley (3), and Quinn (7 mo.).
